Lesbianism still remains a taboo topic in India. We are struggling to lift the veil of stigma attached to it. But what makes it worse is that it gets very little attention in the popular culture, especially in films.
Films like Fire, Girlfriend, or the Malayalam movie the Journey were severely criticized and they experienced the wrath of the censor board. In this edition of Colourful Kamanabillu we meet a team that is trying to change this using the digital media.
The Other Love story is the first lesbian web series in India, and is gaining tremendous popularity. It’s a tender yet passionate love story set in the 90’s in Bangalore. A love story that blooms in the era sans mobile phones and internet, in the era of love letters and landlines.
The series has not only gained popularity in India, but also recognition internationally. It is leading in nominations at the NYC Web Series Fest, with six nominations including Best Director, Cinematography and best actress.
With the Section 377 still looming over our heads, this definitely is a brave step towards promoting equal rights and inclusivity.
Radio Active 90.4 FM congratulates the team of the Other Love Story.
