RJ Padma Priya interviews Dr. Nagarathna for this episode of Arogyave Bhagya.
Jaundice caused by the Hepatitis A and E virus affects the liver. It is brought on due to various reasons, like pollution and an unhealthy lifestyle. It is a curable but self-limiting disease.
Hepatitis A and E virus thrive in a polluted environment, which is why the doctor emphasises consumption of clean water and food. This strain of jaundice is contagious, so all fruits and vegetables should be washed very carefully and all street food should be avoided. Maintaining good sanitation and personal hygiene is essential and the patient must be taken good care of.
Symptoms of jaundice appear within 14 to 28 days of the virus entering the body and show up in the form of fever, fatigue, nausea, body ache and yellowing of the eyes. People with these symptoms should seek medical help immediately. Home remedies might not always be effective and may lead to further health complications.
Dr. Nagarathna insists that people should approach medical professionals without any inhibitions, fear or shame. About 90% of Indian children under the age of 10 have been infected by jaundice at least once.
