Kasa Shramika Parisara Rakshaka – Low-Cost Sustainable Housing for Waste Workers

In this episode of Kasa Shramika Parisara Rakshaka, Adarsh and Karthik from the NGO Hasirudala speak about Hasiru Manae.

Hasiru Manae (Green House) has been realised in collaboration with SELCO Foundation and aims to benefit waste workers by providing then access to low-cost housing.

Two of the beneficiaries of this project have been Jaya, who is a waste picker, and her husband Devraj, who is a priest. The couple lost their home due to heavy rains in 2017 and have been able to construct a new house with the help of Hasiru Manae.

The 3-storey sustainable house was constructed using scrap and reconstituted materials like fly ash bricks. Family members worked on the construction, while local community members helped store building material during the process.
