In this episode of Kasa Shramika Parisara Rakshaka, RJ Salma and RJ Siddique talk about their multifaceted work in waste management.
Salma and Siddique used to run a DWCC at Mudalapalya and later, at Kottigepalya. “We were forced to leave these centers for some reasons.” The couple then got their own godown at Nayandahalli. Unfortunately, following just a few months, the godown was lost to arson, as were other godowns in the vicinity.
Financially, Salma and Siddique have taken many hits. “We lost everything,” they recall now. But their resilience has helped them tide through. Starting January 2020, they have been running a new DWCC at RR Nagar, ward no. 160, with the help of the NGO, Hasirudala.
Eight members work with them at the centre and they have taken up door-to-door dry waste collection as well. Citizen volunteers, BBMP team members, and waste management activists are also supporting their venture in various ways. “We are so happy with this work, and with this centre.”
