In this COVID-19 Special Series episode, Sangeetha Muthuavinashiappan, Chair at CII – Yi (Young Indians), talks about their relief efforts during the lockdown.
Young Indians (Yi) is a non-profit organisational arm of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Young Indians at Bengaluru has formed a Task Force which is working tirelessly towards the cause of providing for some of the most vulnerable people.
Through CII, the Task Force has received a list of migrant workers from the state governments of Karnataka and Odisha. “Each worker is being contacted personally by phone and their basic needs are being fulfilled. About 22,000 meals have been provided to daily wagers and migrant workers across Bangalore. Everyday, more requests are coming in.”
Simultaneously, 12,000 hygiene kits have been provided to frontline workers and aid volunteers. A directory of medical stores to deliver regular medicines to senior citizens has been created. A city-wide directory for home-delivery of medicines – consisting of 60 stores – has also been drawn up. “When this was published, 20,000 people were delivered medicines to in less than 24 hours.”
Listen in!
Congratulations and best wishes to the Young Indians and all their supporting network for the wonderful response to the need of the hour with a sense of social consciousness and a spirit of universal brotherhood.
